Things are gathering pace with the Red Tower refurbishment, having taken rather longer than anticipated to get services installed. We recently met City of York Council on site to finalise how and when the services will be installed – this will hopefully be completed by the end of September. Sewage and telecommunications are already hooked up and power and water will be connected soon. All the trenching and pipework has been completed and the ground has been filled in and re-landscaped.
The path between the gap in the wall and the front of Red Tower is nearly complete which will make it easier for wheelchair and pushchair access from Rosemary Place to the tower. A path from the gap in the wall into Rosemary Place will be completed in due course, subject to consultation between the Council and local residents.
We will formally appoint contractors for the internal work soon and will publish details here. In the meantime, we are grateful for everyone’s patience with the rather protracted work and minor disruption on site. We’re particularly thankful that so many local people and visitors from further afield have continued to support the project throughout the year, by visiting the building, donating to the project and helping out. The Tower will now be closed until the refit is complete, but it’ll be worth the wait when we open in 2018.
